Periodontal disease is the most common disease is small animal medicine. Proper treatment of this condition relies on effective diagnosis and treatment planning.

This 8 hour hands-on class is designed to help the veterinarian and veterinary technician understand and identify

periodontal disease, properly diagnose teeth which can be treated and which teeth cannot be saved, and provide basic treatment of compromised teeth.

This lecture and hands-on wet lab will include:

• Plenty of hands-on time to practice radiograph positioning
• Normal oral anatomy on exam and radiographs
• Handling of instruments
• Use of perioceutic therapies will be demonstrated and practiced
• How to position for radiographs of all teeth in dogs and cats
• The differences between film and digital systems and hands-on experience with both in wet lab if desired
• Use of state-of-the-art digital radiography for immediate feedback on positioning
• The financial benefits of adding dental radiographs to your practice

Periodontal charting involves knowing normal anatomy, as well as knowing the most common abnormalities and how to identify them. Handling of the instruments involved in cleaning, polishing, and detailed dental charting. Use of perioceutic therapies will be demonstrated and practiced as well.

This class has been approved for 8 hours of CE Credit with the NM Board of Veterinary Medicine.
